Sadly, this is the one thing we didn’t drop in 2019-Corona.

It’s funny how big organizations like Bloomberg have yielded to the force of this menace. I mean, even when there was the Ebola epidemic, back in 2013, life moved on for the western people.

Unfortunately, little misses “Rona” got jealous and decided to avenge for the neglect that Ebola received.

Today, we are in a sticky situation and no future way of coming out. Boo Hoo Hoo!

Effect of COVID-19 on Law Firms

There are a bazillion calamities that the world is facing, including the closed stock market. However, let’s steer off that and look closely at the effect of COVID-19 on law firms.

First, hearings are off. Trials are suspended. Clients have more issues. Unfortunately, no one can muster the courage to pay a thousand-dollar-an-hour lawyer.

Where does that leave them? (thinks in silence)

That’s not even half of it.

The pandemic is on the rise daily.

Remember how it looked like Africa was the only haven? Bad news alert! Countries like Nigeria have a steady increase daily. Of course, it is not as much as great America, but its figures are increasing mercilessly.

It’s sad but inevitable that misses Rona has changed the driving gear for the second lap. People are trembling with fear in their houses. No one can even go out to commit a crime, let alone face a lawyer.

Yes. We are all aware that it is that bad.

Advice to all Law Firm Owners

COVID-19 is going to be the talk of the town for a while. It’s time to start thinking of how to make returns outside the office.

That’s my say if you ask me because I can’t fathom what is going on anymore. Countries are trying to open the stock in a couple of days, and I sit down behind my screen, wondering.

What exactly goes on in the mind of decision-makers? Do they realize that if they call off the lockdown, there will be a spike in COVID-19 cases?

Hmm…sometimes I feel I need a psychologist to explain the human mind to me.

As for my dear lawyers, whatever shall we do?

Even if people should go back to work, there are a lot of loopholes they need to fill up. Calling for your services is not an option in the nearest future.

Alas, there is a bright side at the end of the dark, gloomy tunnel. Have you noticed that a lot of businesses are being established during this period?

What does that mean?

The hiring of lawyers!

How?

Well, every successful business enfranchises, or companies need a lawyer to set up the terms and conditions, among other things.

Get it now?

“Yeah…”

I’m glad you are following.

Law firms are back in business!! Although it will be remotely because of you-know-who.

Hmm…where are the employment attorneys in the house? Ok.

Ultimate Rule #101

  • Do not lay off your colleagues because you will be getting more calls from clients than ever.

Due to the global pandemic, millions of people are getting fired. Economic times reported that approximately 25 million jobs could remain vacant as people lose their jobs. Reading this just makes my eyes swell with tears.

But we all know that to every advantage, there is a disadvantage and likewise. Let me get straight to the point. When people are fired, they need assistance to resolve issues like severance pay, and so on. That is your call, guys.

“Ah…” Yes, that is the main deal.

Before I bow and take my leave, let me reemphasize that once the dust settles and this commotion is over, law firms will be restructured.

With the scanty courtrooms and postponed cases, it will leave law firms with no choice but to go digital.

This doesn’t mean that you don’t have prospects in that line. No. It just means that you have to look for ways to get services to people without leaving your safe zone.

Thanks to software like Zoom, you can have online conference meetings with clients and colleagues. Phew! (Sigh of relief)

Dear learned colleague,

This brings us to the end of this pep talk. Although we witnessed the cons of the pandemic on law firms, we saw the pros too. After all, that is balanced in the hands of the woman with the sword, right? Hahaha. Alright, hasta la vista!
